2011′s Biggest Hair Trend-Feather Extensions

I have been eagerly waiting for my shipment of feathers to come in so I could jump in and start providing my clients with this fun, exciting, new hair trend. Feather Extensions…They come in a variety of colors from subtle, natural looking to rainbow brights. And what I love best, this trend is can be worn by any generation. There are three types of feathers to choose from:

Original Feathers- Each original featherhead is unique and consists of four feather extensions group together to make one bundle. Cost of Original Feathers $35 each bundle

Wispers- Individual Feathers used for a subtle, effect. Cost of Wispers $10 per feather

Accents- Individual, wide feathers that make a bold statement. Can be paired with wispers. Cost of Accents $15 per feather

Installation Charge- $15-$20

Once you have purchased your feathers, they are yours to keep. Reuse them for another time and just pay for the cost of installation. Feather extensions can last up to 4 months if cared for properly. Lighter and brighter. Bring on the Sun!

Client of stylist, Tracey Drews, is expecting and wanted her hair to be low maintenance and closer to her natural haircolor.

Tracey's client, Melissa, was feeling that her hair was heavy and weighing her down. Wanted to lighten it up and maintain the length.

Stylist, Tracey, added bangs and interior layers to achieve the look.

As cold weather seems to be lingering, this is the perfect time to take advantage of a little beautification. Changes, even subtle, to your appearance or lifestyle is enough to kickstart the emotions of feeling good, looking great, as we wait for the warm weather and the sun to return.

Holiday Recipes-Food for Thought

The Holiday season is here. I am sure many of you have been rummaging through cookbooks to find those fabulous recipes to entertain family and friends for the big Thanksgiving Feast. During my search I came across one of several church cookbooks that have been passed down from family members or given to me as gifts. I found a section in the back that I have never noticed before. Some recipes that I thought would fill you up:

A RECIPE FOR LIVING

Take 1 person,YOU! Peel off layers of selfishness, egotism, and self pity. Remove all seeds of unkind thoughts, words and actions. Cut out all prejudices, worries and unhappy emotions. Add 1 sincere belief that all life is precious and worth living. One positive thought that you are an important unique creation. Now blend in the notion that life is an exciting adventure. Season with a sense of humor and optimism. Add a dash of faith. Stir gently with love. Next add a cup of determination to try to do your best each day. Garnish with a pleasant disposition. Serve with gentleness, understanding, a smile and best wishes.

RECIPE FOR HAPPINESS

3 Lg. T. of Faith

2 Lg. T. of Friendship

1 Lg. T. of Common Sense

Mix and stir well, during which add generous pinches of the salt of human kindness, pepper of happy wit and spice of appreciation of others. Sprinkle on top the sweets of contentment, discussion, music and reading. Bake over a slow fire, occasionally tasting when done, do not let cool off, but share while warm with others.

Holiday Fun at Lillians

Stylist Tracey Drews, Angie Kustic and Shelly DeBruin participated in doing Holiday Hair and Makeup tips at Lillians for the Downtown Holiday Shopping Event that took place this past weekend. They enjoyed the time they spent and were welcomed by the store owner, Beth Michels, her warm staff and friendly holiday shoppers. Check out their pics!

Tracey Drews gives this Lillian's customer a quick updo for a wedding she was attending that evening.

This set of twins look fabulous for a day of shopping. Shelly DeBruin did the loose waves and Angie Kustic gave a simple hair bun.

There hair was then pinned up to give Polly a stacked bob effect without having to cut her hair.

Grassroots will be doing make-up and hair tips for Lillians Holiday Open House. We will be there on Friday, Nov.12 from 5-9p.m. and Saturday, Nov.13 from 10a.m.-1p.m. This event is in conjunction with Appleton’s Downtown for the Holidays.

Enjoy free cookies as you stroll the Avenue and shop the 60 + unique shops or enjoy the 70+ pubs, clubs & restaurants! Check out the Gingerbread Cut-Outs decorated by local school children from Janet Berry Elementary School. Feel good about shopping local and supporting our Independent Businesses while making a difference for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin. Enjoy the sounds of strolling carolers outside all weekend! Now that’s Downtown Cool!

On Friday night and Saturday, participating businesses will have artist demos, displays and make & takes and The Friends of the Appleton Public Library will have their Annual Used Book Sale. Plus on Saturday, enjoy the Indoor Farm Market inside City Center and have your picture taken with Santa (11am-1pm) at Gabriel Funiture.

Applicious

“Applicious” I don’t know if any of you have had the opportunity to watch the TV series ”Jerseylicious”, but in the hairdressing world it’s definitely entertaining to watch. The show consists of two hairstylist. They despise each other and have dated the same boyfriend. Add the fake nails, very tan skin, lots of makeup and long hair that has lots of volume and luscious curls and you get-Jerseylicious. At Grassroots we thought it would be fun to replicate these hairstyles but with a little more conservative edge that is wearable and of course, without all the drama. So if you want a little more finished style to your hair for a fun evening out, an upcoming event, or to look sizzling as you do your weekly grocery shopping, come in to Grassroots and get your “Applicious” do today.
