My Soul Nature project:

My camera and I have a wonderful relationship; I have been taking pictures for many, many years. People often ask me what kind of photos I like taking. Landscapes? Portraits? Documentary photography?

I have tried taking photos of just about everything and the things that I keep coming back to, the ones that I love to take the most, are of two of the most beautiful things on this planet — children and nature.

You can’t go wrong with these two very free subjects. They both are innocent and natural and this is easily captured when they are in their own habitat.

I am lucky enough to have limitless access to little models; melding photos of nature with children gives portraits an ethereal edge. I have now tried my hand at doing the same thing within the digital realm and have come across something that works really well for me.
Most of the enjoyment is choosing which photo will go with which photo — mixing and matching. In this digital age it all magically happens right before my very eyes. In the old days, 90% of the process was left up to chance as I hoped for the best and discovered some happy mistakes. A part of me revels in that form of ‘magic’. A greater part of me appreciates the wonder of the new tools of technology that allow the essence of my art to be ever more fully expressed.

I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do.

In regards to her artwork here is what Michele has to say, ” My professional career was as a librarian.  I retired from the Appleton Area School District in 2000.

I have enjoyed drawing and painting for most of my life.  I began painting in watercolor about 20 years ago when I took a painting class in the summer at the Paine Art Center with the late Carol Mason.  Until a few years ago, my painting was a summer hobby.  After I retired and had time to devote to painting, it became an integral part of my life.

I love watercolor for its experimental quality.  I enjoy painting all kinds of subject matter including abstracts, and abstract with collage.  After taking many workshops, I feel that I have found a direction for my work.  Much of my recent painting is abstract.

Painting is a wonderful way of problem solving.  When I paint, I find that I concentrate wholly on the work at hand.  Like most artists, if a painting doesn’t seem to work, I try to find what I can do to make it come together”.

If you haven’t noticed Grassroots has started supporting and showcasing artwork from local artists.

Upcoming April 1st we have our Grassroots client, David White’s photography.  David ranks himself as an amateur having been shooting only the past three years.  It all started with a low end point-and-shoot that his daughter had won as a door prize at a company gathering.  He has since upgraded to digital to improve resolution but is still attracted to the basics: late afternoon shadows, contrasts, color, angles / clever geometry, architecture, funky, etc.  His bottom line is simple things.

Most of his display is color and will draw on local shots and Chicago.  He states, “I’m hopeful somebody can realize satisfaction from what I have done.”  Grassroots is looking forward to David’s display.
